Coffee House Conversations
"From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." Ephesians 4:16 (NIV)
What is it?
Coffee House Conversations are an opportunity to come together as a community to talk about God and prayer. We share our experiences, our questions and issues and as a result we are able
to be an encouragement to one another as God intended. We can be open and transparent with each other so we can learn and grow in our faith together. We also learn about biblical references
to the topics of our discussions.
Why do we do it?
To be responsive to Jesus' prayer for us and to become the people He intended us to be. God wants us to be intimately involved with Him and to love Him with all our heart, mind and strength.
He also wanted us to be the body of Christ which calls for us to function as a body does with each part helping the others and building each other up in faith. We are to be an encouragement to each other.
Who can do it?
Coffee House Conversations are open to everyone who is interested in learning, growing, sharing. Bring your friends, family and neighbors. Young and old are welcome as well as believers and unbelievers.
It's a fun evening of fellowship.
When do we do it?
Coffee House Conversations are the 1st Friday evening of each month from 7 – 9 pm. We typically meet at Panera in Waldorf.

Friday Oct 1, 2010 - We had a great conversation about how we sometimes struggle with maintaining our relationship with God and focusing on Him when the world demands such different things from us.
We used the TV show "Family Matters" and the characters of Steve Urkel and the one he loved, Laura, as an analogy to talk from. Steve loved and pursued Laura no matter how much she rejected him or turned from him.
It's kind of like how God never leaves us or forsakes us. Laura rejects Steve because he isn't cool and doesn't fit with the world view of what a boyfriend should be. Laura sometimes takes advantage of Steve in
times of need and he is always there for her. We do the same to God sometimes. Laura also feels bad sometimes for the way she treats Steve while Steve always feels good about who he is. We are often times like Laura
as we go along with what the world says we should do in order to be happy and we frequently are not happy with that path at all. If only we could be more like Steve and truly be happy with who we are, who Christ made us to be
and rejected what the world tells us we need to be like in order to "fit in" and to "be happy" we would be so much happier.
Friday Sept 3, 2010 – Knowing that God answers our prayers, I prayed this time that God would send someone to our table to talk to the entire group. Once again, God answered our prayers. While we were talking a man came to our table twice to talk with us. He didn't really seem interested in knowing what we were doing or in joining our conversation, but his wife sat at the table behind us and listened to our conversation the entire time. Hopefully our conversation served to plant some seeds for God's kingdom.
For us, the conversation was great. We once again focused on our relationship with God and what it means to "love" God. There are different types of love talked about in the bible and we discussed each of these in our relationships with people as well as our relationship with God. It was a great conversation and I think we learned a lot from the differing perspectives. Each time we come together, we learn and grow and enjoy each other's company.
Friday Aug 6, 2010 – Before our meeting I prayed that God would send someone to ask about our meeting. During our conversation one of us got up to get something to drink and then it happened. A man approached the person in line and asked if we were having a bible study. He said it was unusual to see a group of people with their bibles open in Borders coffee shop. God answered our prayers.
As for our conversation, it was good. We were able to talk about the most important thing that God wants from us which is to love God with all our heart, all our soul and all our mind. We talked about what that means to each of us and how it can be challenging to do this at times. One person said, "it was great for us to come together and be real with each other and to get to know each other better."
