Hands in Prayer

Prayer Walks

Then the Lord said to Joshua, "See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. … On the seventh day, march around the city seven times….have all the people give a loud should; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, every man straight in." Joshua 6:2-5 (NIV)

What is it?
Prayer walks are our opportunity to come together and go out into the community and petition God for the health, protection, and deliverance of our community. During each prayer walk we focus on specific needs of the community and upcoming events.

Why do we do it?
We arrange for prayer walks to pray for the in-breaking of the kingdom of God into our community and our nation.

Who can do it?
All are invited to participate in our prayer walks…old and young, walkers and riders, families and singles…you don't even have to be able to walk!

When do we do it?
Prayer walks are typically the 4th Saturday of each month from 10 am – 12:30 pm. Additionally, we schedule event driven prayers. We gather at the church and pray for the prayer walk before heading out into the community. We close our prayer walk by sharing our stories of how God met us during our walk.

Saturday Sept 25, 2010 – Children are so precious in God's kingdom and they are faced with so many challenges that we felt led to pray for schools in our community a second time as the school year is off to a fresh start. We gathered at the church and decided to divide up so we could cover all the schools our children attend. As we were praying we experienced God's leading us to pray uniquely for the needs of each specific school. At one school we felt led to pray for the community in addition to protection for the students. At another school we felt let to pray for protection from the need to conform to the ways of the world. We were able to pray for boldness in sharing God's love and for an upcoming home coming. We were also led to go to and pray for the Charles county school board and the upcoming election.

Saturday Aug 28, 2010 – Several of us gathered at the church and mapped out our plan for praying for schools in our community. We walked the grounds and prayed for 6 schools including 2 elementary, 2 middle school and 2 high schools. God met us there and lead us to pray for families, homes and the community in addition to the students, school administrators and faculty. We felt a strong prompting to pray for high school kids and the challenges they face dealing with peer pressure and all the temptations.
